Prof. Shamir Cawich

Professor Cawich trained at the University of the West Indies, completing a M.B.B.S. Degree in 1998 and a Post-Graduate Degree in Surgery in 2006. He then completed subspecialty training in Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery at the Southampton University NHS Hospital Trust in 2010.

Professor Cawich was appointed by the University of the West Indies as a Lecturer in Surgical Anatomy in 2006 and as Lecturer in Surgery in 2008. This promotion to the rank of Professor recognizes his academic achievements, with over 135 research articles published in peer reviewed scientific journals. It also recognizes his contribution to surgery in the Caribbean, with service on numerous committees including the Caribbean Society of Endoscopic Surgeons (CaSES), the Caribbean Chapter of the Americas Hepatopancreatobiliary Association (AHPBA) and the Caribbean Obesity Society. His achievements have also been recognized internationally when he was elected as Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as well as the Americas Hepatopancreatobiliary Association (AHPBA).

In 2017, Professor Cawich was elected Vice President of the Caribbean College of Surgeons. He has contributed significantly to the development of the College.
